Different patterns of intrinsic functional connectivity at the default mode and attentional networks predict crystalized and fluid abilities in childhood

چکیده

Abstract Crystallized abilities are skills used to solve problems based on experience, while fluid linked reasoning without prior knowledge. To what extent crystallized and involve dissociated or overlapping neural systems is debatable. Due often deployed small sample sizes different study settings in work, the basis of childhood remains largely unknown. Here we analyzed within between network connectivity patterns from resting-state functional MRI 2707 children 9 10 years ABCD study. We hypothesized that differences at default mode (DMN), ventral, dorsal attentional networks (VAN, DAN) explain abilities. found stronger between-network DMN VAN, DAN, VAN DAN predicted Within-network both Our findings reveal rely coupling DMN, whereas associated with a focal configuration DAN. provides new evidence into child intelligence calls for future comparative research adulthood during neuropsychiatric diseases.

Posteromedial cortex glutamate and GABA predict intrinsic functional connectivity of the default mode network

The balance between excitatory glutamatergic projection neurons and inhibitory GABAergic interneurons determines the function of cortical microcircuits. How these neurotransmitters relate to the functional status of an entire macro-scale network remains unknown. The posteromedial cortex (PMC) is the default mode network (DMN) node with the greatest functional connectivity; therefore, we hypothe...

Mindfulness is associated with intrinsic functional connectivity between default mode and salience networks

Mindfulness is attention to present moment experience without judgment. Mindfulness practice is associated with brain activity in areas overlapping with the default mode, salience, and central executive networks (DMN, SN, CEN). We hypothesized that intrinsic functional connectivity (iFC; i.e., synchronized ongoing activity) across these networks is associated with mindfulness scores. After 2 we...

the effect of functional/notional approach on the proficiency level of efl learners and its evaluation through functional test

in fact, this study focused on the following questions: 1. is there any difference between the effect of functional/notional approach and the structural approaches to language teaching on the proficiency test of efl learners? 2. can a rather innovative language test referred to as "functional test" ge devised so so to measure the proficiency test of efl learners, and thus be as much reliable an...

Diagnostic classification of intrinsic functional connectivity highlights somatosensory, default mode, and visual regions in autism

Despite consensus on the neurological nature of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), brain biomarkers remain unknown and diagnosis continues to be based on behavioral criteria. Growing evidence suggests that brain abnormalities in ASD occur at the level of interconnected networks; however, previous attempts using functional connectivity data for diagnostic classification have reached only moderate ...

patterns and variations in native and non-native interlanguage pragmatic rating: effects of rater training, intercultural proficiency, and self-assessment

although there are studies on pragmatic assessment, to date, literature has been almost silent about native and non-native english raters’ criteria for the assessment of efl learners’ pragmatic performance. focusing on this topic, this study pursued four purposes. the first one was to find criteria for rating the speech acts of apology and refusal in l2 by native and non-native english teachers...
